Rule 5

RULE 5. GUARANTEE.

  1. In all passenger service, the earnings from mileage, overtime, or other applicable rules for each day service is performed shall not be less than the amount shown in Rule 2(c)(1) for engineers.
  2. In applying the minimum rate of pay for engineers in passenger service, as shown in Rule 2(c)(1), it is intended that on assignments where engineers run so as to make only the equivalent of a single trip in one direction each day, they shall be paid the guaranteed minimum for each single trip.

Example: On a 100-mile division, engineers double the road Monday, lay over Tuesday, double Wednesday, and lay over Thursday, etc. They shall be allowed the minimum for each leg of their turn-around trip.

On the same division other crews double the road Monday and Tuesday, and lay over Wednesday, and double Thursday and Friday, and lay over Saturday. These men make the equivalent of four single trips every three days, and therefore would not be entitled to the minimum for each trip.
