Gentlemen:

This has reference to the conference on October 30, 1957, in regard to the application of the following agreements covering the splitting of vacations (the taking of vacations at two different periods):

Agreement with the ORC&B March 14, 1957
Agreement with the BofRT December 19, 1956

It was agreed that:

  1. When vacations are split, consistent with the various agreements with the above named organizations covering “Vacation Schedules”, an employe who requests that a part of his vacation be advanced to an earlier date must, at the time he takes the advance portion of his vacation, advise the proper officer when he will commence the remainder of his vacation, which must be during the period of his originally scheduled vacation.

For example:

An employee has scheduled his three-week vacation to commence December 8th. He subsequently requests and is granted permission to take two weeks of his vacation during June. He will advise the proper officer, at the time he takes his June vacation, of the period he desires to commence the remaining portion thereof, which must be on one of the designated dates: December 8th, 16th, or 23rd.

  1. If an employe fails to designate the date he will commence the remaining portion of his vacation, it will be started on the original date on which his vacation was scheduled to commence.
  2. The splitting of vacations does not prohibit an employe from advancing his entire vacation period to an earlier date, subject to the various agreements covering “Vacation Schedules.”
