All Local Chairmen and
Lodge Secretaries,

Brotherhood of Railroad Trainmen,
Union Pacific Railroad (ED)

Dear Sirs and Brothers:

Attached find a copy of instructions issued to division superintendents over the signature of Mr. J. T. Singent.

The instructions are self-explanatory and resulted from a vigorous protest on the part of the undersigned when a crew dispatcher automatically placed a yardman on the mark-up at the termination of his scheduled vacation period when the individual desired to take a few days off in addition to his vacation.

In the future, it will be necessary for employees to okay for service when ready to resume service following vacation, regardless of whether additional time is taken.

This for your information.

Fraternally yours,
/s/ J. H. Shepherd
General Chairman,
B. of R. T.
Union Pacific-Eastern District
